The surveillance cameras and other equipment that will support the country’s video surveillance system were delivered this Wednesday, April 23, by the South Korean Ambassador to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, Ilza Amado Vaz.

The delivery of these materials to São Tomé and Príncipe follows a request made by the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe to the Government of South Korea. During the handover ceremony, the South Korean Ambassador, Song Bun Shin, stated that this gesture symbolises the close friendship between South Korea and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The diplomat further noted that cooperation between the two countries has intensified following the visit of the President of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, to South Korea last year during his participation in the summit held in Seoul, where he also took the opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

As part of the continued reinforcement of relations between the two nations, Song Bun Shin added that the South Korean Government has decided to implement a programme aimed at enhancing São Tomé and Príncipe’s capacity to prevent potential conflicts, which will also contribute to regional security.

On behalf of the Government, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Communities, Ilza Amado Vaz, expressed her gratitude to the South Korean Government. She stated that although São Tomé and Príncipe is considered a peaceful and safe country, these devices will help deter criminal activities, support investigations, and contribute to strengthening national security.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Defence and Internal Order of São Tomé and Príncipe, Horácio Sousa.

The delivered materials are valued at approximately 300,000 US dollars.
