Selaković: Serbia Committed to Strengthening Overall Cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikola Selaković, met this evening with the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Jorge Bom Jesus, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Diaspora, Edite Ten Jua.

Highlighting that the two countries established close and friendly relations during the era of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), Selaković emphasized Serbia's commitment to fostering and strengthening overall relations with São Tomé and Príncipe.

The minister noted that enhanced political dialogue and regular high-level meetings contribute to better mutual cooperation and understanding. He also stressed the importance of establishing a practice of holding political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

The Serbian foreign minister pointed out that strengthening the contractual and legal framework is a key element for further developing cooperation. In this context, he expressed satisfaction with signing an agreement with Minister Ten Jua on visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passports.

Selaković expressed gratitude for São Tomé and Príncipe's principled support for Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also voiced confidence that this friendly country would maintain its stance and expressed hope that Serbia could count on its support in international forums.

He emphasized the need to work on enhancing economic cooperation, noting the potential in numerous areas.

The interlocutors also discussed improving cooperation in education and sports. Selaković particularly highlighted the scholarship program for foreign students, "World in Serbia," and announced an increased number of scholarships for students from São Tomé and Príncipe, inviting them to study at Serbian universities.
